Department Representatives

Each graduate degree-awarding department is asked to provide one representative to the Council. Representatives attend Council meetings with voting rights and often serve on additional committees.

The more representation we have in the GSA, the more we can ensure that graduate student voices are being heard on campus. Often departments are without a representative; check below to see if your department is in need.

Currently, department reps are paid $100 for each quarter that they participate in the GSA Council. Grads who also serve on a committee or council are paid an additional stipend quarterly.

How to become a department rep:

1)    Check the list of current department reps below to see if your department spot is vacant.

2)    Check with the other grads in your department to ensure they will support you as their representative. You’ll need written documentation of your department’s approval:

GSA Bylaws
III.B. Each department’s graduate students may establish a valid organization or vote to select a representative to the GSA. It is the duty of each department representative to keep a copy of the email or other evidence documenting the selection by his or her department members. Department representatives obtain the right to vote after their approval by a majority vote of the Council.

3)    Come to one of our Council meetings and introduce yourself as a new rep. You will be confirmed by a Council vote.

Note: In the event that two or more students wish to represent their department, a departmental graduate student vote will need to be held, according to whatever organization that department has established.

4)    Attend Council meetings and required trainings to get your stipend.
